Malva Sylvestris Zebrina

Malva is a very attractive plant for butterflies and bees. It is related to the hollyhock but these flowers grow on well-branched stems with green leaves. The plant sows itself and can then re-emerge next year. These seeds need a period of cold to germinate.

Sow: year-round in seed tray, first give 2-4 weeks of warmth (18-22°C), then give a cold period in e.g. the refrigerator (+4°C) for 4-6 weeks, then gently warm again to room temperature, after which germination will follow. The seed germinates irregularly over a longer germination period. So do not discard the seedling too soon. You can also sow in the garden, then just let winter come over it and germination takes place in spring.Malva prefers full sun, but also grows well in partial shade. Important is well-drained, slightly dry soil.
Cut off spent flower stems to just below the upper leaves to encourage continuous flowering.
